EHL Ladies Premier Division
OLTON were overwhelmed during the opening exchanges as Clifton came flying out of the blocks to force a 3-0 lead by half time.
The Bristol-based side were determined to give their Commonwealth Games players a sound send-off and chased everything down.
With Olton penned inside their own half, Clifton eventually claimed the lead on 13 minutes when Carys Hopkins converted.
Clifton increased the advantage through Fleur Horner following a penalty corner scramble which saw Gemma Brookes save three times and the ball hit the goal frame twice before being forced over.
Hopkins hit a third goal two minutes before half time as Olton struggled to get a hold on the game.
The second half saw Olton show more resolve and they hit back when Jenny Pritchard converted from a short corner.
Four minutes later Olton added a second through Lisa Hunter.
At this point, Olton threatened to take the game but Clifton responded through Dawn Mitchell to make it 4-2 before a fifth goal by Carla Dunnett effectively put matters out of reach.
Olton must regroup ahead of this weekend’s home contest with local rivals Birmingham University.
