With the National Time-Trial Championships at the beginning of September, Balsall Common’s Matt Clinton – riding for Mike Vaughan Cycles Kenilworth - has been building form.
Last Saturday he was at Coventry CC’s 25-mile time-trial, with two laps of the Princethorpe-Peugeot Works circuit.
As last year’s winner Clinton’s course record and PB for 25 miles was 52:03.
Riding both laps consistently, his form shone as he came flying home in 51:14 (29.4mph). Jon Simpkins was second in 52:53 and James Perkins third with 54:14.
Sunday morning saw Clinton at the Worcester St John’s road race, a six-lap rolling circuit, of 75miles. As ever an extremely quick race, Clinton saved his legs until the start of the final lap when he attempted a solo move but was hauled back after five -miles.
His legs drained, when he kicked for the final sprint to the line nothing was there and he rolled in 13th.
A slightly disappointing result as Clinton focuses on a top-10 place in the National TT champs.
