NERVES will be tested next month when Centurion Running Club descend on Stratford Common for their final race of the season.
The Solihull-based club have dropped to third place in division three, and any more slip ups will see them miss out on promotion.
Last weekend the three-lap course through the mud at Burbage Common, Hinckley, provided a good test of speed, strength, and stamina for the field of nearly 150 runners with Cannock and Staffs AC proving too good for everyone else on the day to run out very worthy winners.
Their lead runner Tom Humphries scored an emphatic victory, and with the remainder of their team among the first 10 finishers they scored an impressive 33 points, well clear of league leaders Royal Sutton AC (115 points).
Centurion RC finished third on 194 points, some 50 points more than in their previous races.
They suffered the loss of the low scoring Ian Satterthwaite on the second lap with a hamstring injury, but a very good team effort by Paul Davies (11th), Paul Bingham (19th), Richard White (23rd), Marc Curtis (45th), Tom Healy (46th) and Trevor Bacciochi (50th).
