The final round of league matches saw Solihull Municipal men’s bowls team come up short in their quest to retain their league title.
Needing six points at home to Blossomfield they managed only four with Roger Reade, Tony Burdett, Francis Fletcher and Dave Greaves losing 13 -20 while Nigel Walker, James Pearson, Keith Miller and Mal Evans had an emphatic 25 -7 win.
On the same evening Sherwood Park beat Bournville on both rinks gaining the points they needed to take the title on 79 ahead of the Muni on 77.
The Muni men did extract a little revenge as they played Sherwood Park in the quarter final of the Walker Trophy.
Dave Greaves got the Muni boys off to a good start winning the singles 21 -17. The fours team of Geoff Wyatt, Brian Trindle, Clive Burbage and Brian Jones pulled back from a large deficit to only lose by three 23 -26 leaving the tie balanced precariously.
The triples team of John Bentien, Chris Holmes and Mal Evans then won 20 -13.
The pairs duo of Roger Reade and Francis Fletcher got off to a disastrous start however they gathered momentum and turned their match round to lead by three going in to the last end.
With the final wood of the game the Sherwood Park skip played a superb shot to score two but not enough to win the match overall.
The Muni men now play Handsworth Wood in the semi final on a neutral green tonight, Friday, September 3 where they hope to reach the final.
