DENISE Marston-Smith maintained her recent fine form with another strike as Olton ladies comfortably beat struggling Ipswich 5-2.
The 31-year-old followed up from her four goals last week to help the Grange Road side maintain the pressure on leaders Bowdon Hightown.
Despite the horrendous weather conditions Ipswich made the pitch playable and it started well for the hosts who took the lead after just three minutes.
Olton didn’t let this faze them though and although not exactly dominating possession they looked much the better team.
On 18 minutes they got their reward when Lisa Hunter pounced on a loose ball in the ‘D’ and converted with a skillful reverse-stick shot. Two minutes later Marston-Smith converted a short-corner rebound with an almost carbon-copy strike to give Olton the lead.
And GB Olympic star Lucilla Wright doubled the away side’s advantage with another strike from a short corner.
After the break Ipswich pulled one back but on 54 minutes Marston-Smith smashed in Olton’s fourth.
Laura Price made it 5-2 with the last touch of the game as Olton moved to within six points of the top.
