SOLIHULL and Shirley Badminton player Will Kitching continued his recent good run winning two medals at the Under 17 Gold tournament in London last weekend.
Having won both the boys singles and boys doubles events at the U17 Hertfordshire Silver Tournament two weeks ago, Will stepped up to the Gold event and continued his good form. Seeded five he got through the first three rounds without dropping a game.
In the last 16, Will played Ryan Quek from Worcester, whom he had beaten in the final two weeks before.
Will won a tight game 21–18, 21-14.
In the quarters he dispatched Josh Musty from Wiltshire 21-11, 21-15 before edging out Tom Saunders (Surrey) 21–16, 21-18 in the semis to get to his first Gold event final.
This was a very tense affair against Ross Green (Hampshire) with the first game going to the wire, Will agonizingly losing it 30-29.
Will fought hard in the second but lost out 21–18 to get the silver medal.
In the doubles he teamed up Ryan Quek, and having won their first match were up against the No.2 seeds for a place in the semi-final.
Narrowly losing the first game, they fought back to take the second and then caused an upset by taking the third.
In the semis they game up against a strong Yorkshire pair and narrowly lost 21-18 16-21 21-17, but guaranteed themselves a bronze medal.
