CLASSY Chris Tonks and Claire Millward established Solihull and Shirley Badminton Club as a major force in Warwickshire when sweeping all before them at the county’s Restricted Tournament.
England international Tonks enhanced his reputation as the leading player in Warwickshire when beating Mark Sellwood in three games to take the men’s singles title.
Tonks then joined forces with his Solihull and Shirley team mate Tim Lawrence to take the men’s doubles prize as well when they got the better of Esporta’s Chris Dakin and Chris Roe in two sets.
The terrific Tonks then completed his hat-trick when teaming up with Claire Millward to win the mixed doubles title as well when they beat Chris Roe and Birmingham University’s Catherine Grant in an extremely hard-fought three sets.
Claire Millward also had a competition to remember.
She won the women’s singles title when beating Mary Le Druillenec in three sets in what proved an all Solihull and Shirley final.
Claire then combined with Catherine Grant to win the women’s doubles as well when they beat the Coventry combination of Mary and Sara Mason in two sets.
