This Sunday April 3 sees the annual Ladies Day fund raiser for Camp Hill WRFC at their Haslucks Green Road ground.
The league toppers welcome former premiership side Team Northumbria to Shirley in their final game of the season.
What’s more there will be the first outing of the team’s development side against a Barbarian team. If two fantastic rugby games are not enough, there will be a raffle with many fantastic prizes, cake stalls, tombola and disco in the evening. All proceeds go to Laura ‘Comet’ Wicks, a former player who was seriously injured several years ago whilst playing rugby.
Laura was only 21 when she was injured, suffering a bang to the head and never regaining consciousness.
She is now cared for in a hospice down in Essex but is fondly remembered by her team mates.
“It was just an unfortunate accident,” said team manager Leanne Ashworth. “And every year we hold this fund raiser to help pay for her care.”
The Ladies are currently in the division which sits just below the English national league and as well as driving for promotion are also currently looking for a sponsor to take over from West Midlands Fire Service who due to cutbacks have had to terminate their backing of the club.
Anyone interested in sponsoring one of the finest ladies rugby teams in the country can call Leanne on 07983 405414.
The first game of Sunday’s fund raiser kicks off at 12.30pm with tickets available on the door for £2 per adult or £5 per family. All are welcome for what is sure to be a fantastic afternoon of rugby and fun.
