Coventry & NW 0 Olton & WW 3
COVENTRY began the game fired up and looking to take more than just the three points, with late challenges flying in during a frantic opening of this BodyKraft Premier Division fixture.
Olton had the better of the early exchanges but had few opportunities to take the lead on a slow pitch.
On 17 minutes, Olton were reduced to 10 men as Chris George was unfortunate to be sin binned for an alleged break down of play, after the ball hit his foot in the Olton 25-yard area.
The deadlock was broken on 25 minutes after a penetrating run by Simon Thompson, which resulted in a short corner to the visitors. Thomas Pickersgill coolly converted to take his tally to 28 goals for the season.
After the break, Olton re-emerged as a dominant force once again, but Coventry’s back four remained tight and kept Olton at bay.
Olton managed to soak up a 10-minute spell of Coventry pressure after Thompson was sin binned, and were rewarded when a short corner on 57 minutes was converted by Pickersgill.
The game was then put out of Coventry’s reach by a Chris George strike from the top of the ‘D’, following a neat move down Olton’s left wing.
Leamington 8 Yardley 0
AFTER the promise shown in the previous week’s match, this result in the West Midlands Division 2 was a shattering blow to Yardley’s confidence.
It was a performance to forget for Yardley, who were up against the favourites for promotion. Leamington were always quicker to the ball and much better organised.
Yardley began slowly and were soon over-run in midfield - it was no surprise that they raced into a 4-0 lead by half time.
At the start of the second half Yardley did show greater purpose and had some good possession but could not convert it into goals. Leamington scored a fifth to confirm their supremacy.
Yardley’s efforts dwindled further and three more goals were scored by the league leaders to compound Yardley’s miserable afternoon.
