ST ALPHEGE Primary School suffered an agonisingly close defeat in the Asda Kwik Cricket Girls’ National Final, at Headingley Cricket Ground last week.

The girls were crowned West Midlands champions after winning their regional division, and came extremely close to becoming national champions, only to fall short at the final hurdle.

Unbeaten in their three group games, St Alphege went on to comfortably win their semi-final contest, but missed out by a single run in the final, as Lowes Wong School scrambled to their total on the last ball.

The event, which involved over 12,000 primary schools, was supported by two of the England Women’s Ashes winning team – Katherine Brunt and Sarah Taylor.
