Hampton-in-Arden Men’s 1sts became Ener-g West Midlands Premier League champions on Saturday with this victory over Stratford.
Hampton entered the game with a nervous energy and this showed as Stratford were allowed to score first, with a swift move from a free-hit catching out the Hampton defence. However, Hampton quickly found their stride and Dafydd Bowles placed a trademark drag flick into the goal to level the scores.
Soon after, he was fouled whilst lining up another short corner attempt and the resulting penalty flick allowed Alex Grafton to increase his own impressive goal tally for the season.
After half time, Hampton looked to make their dominance pay and before Stratford had time to settle, Grafton was celebrating yet another goal.
More chances followed for Hampton but it was Stratford that delivered the next decisive shot on goal bringing the scoreline back within one.
This slight setback did not deter Hampton and it was Grafton who got on the scoresheet again, collecting his fourth hat-trick in four weeks.
Matt Hall then provided the finishing touch to the most delightful of free-flowing attacking moves, instigated from midfield by Jas Ghata-Aura and continued thanks to Rhys Doherty and Bowles up front.
And as the final whistle was about to be blown, Bowles dispatched another drag flick into the back of the Stratford net to make the final score 6-2. This instigated an outpouring of joy from the whole Hampton team, who still remain unbeaten in the league, and capped off a confident league-winning performance with two games to spare.
