Olton beat a strong Student side who were relegated from the Premier League last season.
Both midfield and forward lines worked hard in attack and stifled any possession the Students managed to get. Set plays were crucial for Olton and they were rewarded early with Muhammad Irfan converting for his first of the season.
Just before half time Jay Reddy showed scintillating pace to calmly finish a move created by an Irfan aerial.
The second half brief was to cause more problems for the home side, but Loughborough took advantage of a rare moment of defensive confusion to score a deflection.
Olton keeper Will Burns dealt with the rare shots he saw convincingly.
The icing on the cake was a second Irfan corner and at 3-1, after some rejigging of the formation, Olton efficiently repelled everything Loughborough could muster.
A very difficult test turned out to be a good time for Olton who enjoyed their best performance of the season, moving them up to third in the League. If this standard is maintained there will be more victories to come.
Next week Olton travel north to play second placed Sheffield Hallam, the other team relegated from the Premier League last season.
