Olton Ladies 2 - 2 Slough Ladies
OLTON started the game with great conviction, taking the game to Slough and having the better of the early exchanges.
They were rewarded for this when Mandy Gatherer scored with a trade-mark deflection just in front of the goalkeeper to take the lead.
At the start of the second half, Olton were caught cold and after only three minutes Jane Smith won a penalty stroke which she duly put high into the net giving Maggs Rees no chance.
Olton refused to let this deter them and battled across every inch of the pitch and after another ten minutes were rewarded when Lucy Horn gave Olton the lead.
But within one minute of the restart, Jane Smith equalised again. Despite a concerted effort by both teams to find a winner it ended all square.
Melton 0 - 5 Olton
OLTON travelled to Leicestershire on Saturday to face Melton in the Premier Division in what was expected to be a one-sided affair.
Simon Thompson, George and Wilson were controlling the midfield well and the Olton forward line were causing problems up front.
Tom Pickersgill beat the keeper just two minutes after the second half began, taking his season tally up to 30.
Holes began to appear after Pickersgill’s opener and this allowed Sam Mallett, Tom Mallett and Thompson to all get on the score sheet in a 20 minute spell.
With around ten minutes to play, Olton’s ‘move of the season’ saw Michael Johnson and Ed James combine to take the score to 5-0. James unleashed an upright reverse stick golf-style strike into the corner of the goal past the stranded goalkeeper.
Bloxwich 7 - 0 Yardley
YARDLEY, playing without their leading goal-scorer, were well beaten by one of the strong favourites for promotion from the West Midlands Division 2 at the weekend.
Yardley made a spirited start, but it was soon evident that Bloxwich were much stronger and quicker to the ball both in defence and attack.
