Solihull Barons 9 Fylde Flyers 7
BARONS twice allowed apparently convincing leads to slip away before they ultimately battled their way to two points in this National Ice Hockey league last Sunday.
The game started comfortably for Sheldon Jewellery Centre-sponsored out, with goals either side of the first 10 minutes from Joe Henry and Charlie Hammerton.
At 16 minutes a Fylde powerplay was snuffed out but within seconds determined play got the Lancashire side’s first goal.
The Solihull advantage was however quickly restored, Jake Larkin taking advantage of a breakaway while Rob Perks got Solihull’s fourth.
The Flyers soaked up the pressure early in the second, before hitting Solihull with two goals in quick succession. Three goals in as many minutes from the Barons Erik Bakalar, Joe Henry and Rich Slater however gave the Barons an apparently safe lead.
Fylde then fired in four goals in four minutes in the middle of the final period to draw level and Barons were left relying on the experience of Erik Bakalar who helped get two rapid goals in the final few minutes to ensure the points went with Solihull.
The Barons will not have long to wait to meet Fylde for the final time of the season. This Saturday they travel to the Flyers rink.
