In the first round of the Midlands Mountain Bike Cross Country series at Hanchurch Woods, near Stoke on Sunday 13-year-old Jack Ravenscroft won the Juvenile race comfortably with team mate Danny Fox in sixth place.
In the Under 12 race at the same event, Connor Fox won the bronze medal.
The day before, Tudor Grange Park hosted the second round of the Cycling Development West Midlands programme. The races were promoted by Solihull Cycling Club, with Andy Tennant and Jess Varnish of Team GB in attendance to watch 117 riders under the age of 16 enjoy a day of coaching and racing.
At the Two Counties Road Race near Bridgnorth on Sunday, Solihull CC’s Connor O’Brian scored an impressive win over the 48 mile route, taking the sprint for the line from the remainder of his breakaway companions.
On the same day four Solihull Cycling Club riders travelled to the west of Worcester for the Velo Club Sevale Road Race, run under the League of Veteran Racing Cyclists rules.
The groups were divided into age categories and in the category C/D race (age 50-60), which was a course of over 53 miles, Ian Cowan from Solihull CC got away with three other very strong riders and they were never caught. Ian was delighted with his strong ride and fourth place, which gave him third in his ‘C’ category (age 50-55). Martin Russell rode aggressively in the same race but just missed the decisive break.
In the E/F/G race, which saw riders aged 60 + competing against each other, David Rutherford got away from the remaining pack, with four other riders, after just 1 ½ laps of the 53 mile race and this group stayed away until the finish.
David Rutherford finished third both in the race and in E category (age 60-65).
Bob Richards did not get into the break and finished ninth to take second in F category (age 65-70).
