Ladies victim to a shock defeat

Another busy week for Solihull and Shirley Badminton Club started off with an unexpected loss for the Ladies’ 1st team against Birmingham Uni 2nd team in the Birmingham League 1st division.

Another busy week for Solihull and Shirley Badminton Club started off with an unexpected loss for the Ladies’ 1st team against Birmingham Uni 2nd team in the Birmingham League 1st division. It ended with a 4-2 loss with captain Claire Wilenchik having to withdraw in her last rubber after fracturing her foot. The Ladies’ 2nd team were in top spot in the 2nd division after beating Birmingham Badminton Bears 5-1.

The Men’s 1st team continued their unbeaten run in the 1st division with an away 6-3 win against Bidgley. The Men’s 2nd team continued their push for promotion from the 3rd division with a match against fellow contenders Activ Sports. Captain James Hunt and Peter Sidaway, and Mick Ollivent and Andrew Kitching finished the match without dropping a rubber for a 7-2 victory.

In the Solihull League, the Men’s 2nd team picked up a much needed win in the 2nd division. Will Kitching was in super form to help the team gain a 6-0 victory.
