Marathon challenges in memory of grandad

A SHIRLEY runner is putting her heart and “sole” into her latest charity race.

A SHIRLEY runner is putting her heart and “sole” into her latest charity race.

That’s because Catherine Ricketts, from Shirley, is running TWO half marathons in memory of her grandad.

In running the two events, Cat, who is 31, hopes to raise money for the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

She said: “I really enjoy running and ran the Birmingham Half Marathon last year so I thought I would go one step further and do the Great North Run as well this year!

“It will be a big challenge for me, but I will be running in memory of my grandad and to hopefully help all of those people who rely on BHF for their vital work.

“My grandad suffered with heart problems throughout his life and I wanted to help raise awareness of the brilliant work the BHF does.”

Cat, who lives in Olton Road, will be running the challenging 13.2 mile courses on September 20 and October 11 respectively. If you would like to sponsor her visit www.justgiving.com/catricketts.
