BLYTHE Barracudas were well represented at the Warwickshire County Championships, with 55 swimmers taking part in the event.
Held over the last three Saturdays at Coventry’s 50 metre pool, the event is one of the most important in the swimming calendar.
For the girls, 10-year-old Charlotte Rigg had a superb meet coming second overall in the British Age Group categories. Gutsy swims earned her gold in the 50m breaststroke as well as four silvers in the 50m backstroke, 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle and 200m individual medley.
Victoria Long won the 11-12 year old girl’s category taking gold in the 100m backstroke and 200m butterfly, silver in the 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle and bronze in the 400m freestyle.
In the 15-year-old girls age group it was Maria Lyri who shone. Claiming overall first in the heats of the 200m individual medley, Maria then went on to win the final, picking up three trophies to add to her gold medal in the 200m backstroke.
The boys also enjoyed medal success with Tom O’Hanlon achieving silver in the 11/12 age group for 50m backstroke and bronze in the 50m freestyle. 10 year-old Fraser Blackhurst gained silver in the 50m breaststroke as did the boys age 9-10 freestyle relay team.
A special mention goes to 13-year-old Jamie Edwards for being the only boy in the club to compete in the 400m individual medley.
