Moors march on in FA Cup as Barwell await

SOLIHULL Moors have secured a home tie against last season’s Midland Alliance champions Barwell in the FA Cup’s Third Qualifying Round on October 9.

SOLIHULL Moors have secured a home tie against last season’s Midland Alliance champions Barwell in the FA Cup’s Third Qualifying Round on October 9.

That was after they’d eased past Evo Stick League Division One South side Kidsgrove Athletic 2-0 last Saturday to book their place in the next stage of football’s most famous competition.

Despite playing two levels lower than Moors, Kidsgrove gave a gallant account of themselves, but once Adam Cunnington had fired them into a 10th minute lead, Bob Faulkner’s men were always in control.

However it wasn’t until 20 minutes from time that Moors wrapped the game up.

Junior English headed Beswick’s corner back across goal for Joel Grandison to convert.

Credit to Kidsgrove who kept going and struck the woodwork themselves.

Although playing in the same league, Barwell are expected to pose a bigger threat by virtue of the fact they’ve won all seven of their league games to date.

At least Moors marksman Adam cunnington will be relishing the contest having arrived at Damson Park from Barwell in the summer.

Moors have no match this Saturday but play hosts to Studley next Tuesday, October 5th in a Birmingham Senior Cup clash.

Assistant boss Micky Moore maintained: “Although we’ve only got a 17 strong squad at the moment we won’t be holding back. It’s a competition we want to do well in”.

Moors will resist the temptation to promote some of their talented youth players for the Studley game with Moore adding “It’s too early in their development. Had it been January or February, I’d be more inclined to say yes!
