Moseley's dramatic rescue joy

THE cricket season ended on Saturday with the majority of Solihull sides celebrating a successful campaign.

THE cricket season ended on Saturday with the majority of Solihull sides celebrating a successful campaign.

Moseley's crunch match with West Bromwich Dartmouth was abandoned due to the adverse weather conditions however the five points they gained kept them in the Birmingham & District Premier League at the Black Country side's expense.

Fellow top-flight side, Knowle & Dorridge finished the season on a high as they beat Barnt Green by five wickets at Station Road.

Nick James took 4-38 as the visitors were reduced to 101-9. In reply Sam Reddish (26) top scored for K&D, who leapfrogged their opponents in the table to finish third.

Walsall were crowned champions for a third successive season and bottom-placed Shifnal joined WB Dartmouth in the First Division next year.

Dorridge will play Second Division runners-up Berskwell next year after they retained their First Division status despite suffering a seven-wicket loss at champions Shrewsbury.

And in the Third Division Olton & WW continued their fine form with an 83-run victory over Oswestry but it wasn't enough for them to catch second placed Brockhampton who clinched promotion with a narrow two-wicket win.

It was a disappointing end to the season in the Warwickshire league as Lapworth Offchurch missed out on promotion to the top flight despite recording a winning draw over Pickwick P&M.

Lapworth hit 104-8 and Pickwick's reply ended on 80-7. The result meant Lapworth finished 15 points behind their opponents.

In Division Two Marston Green finished rock bottom as their game was abandoned. They will face Castle Bromwich, Knowle & Dorridge III, and Hampton & Solihull next year.
