Municipal are beaten in spite of fightback

SOLIHULL Municipal Bowls Club battled hard as they made a second-half comeback against a strong Warwickshire touring team challenging the visitors on several rinks, but eventually went down by five rinks to one.

SOLIHULL Municipal Bowls Club battled hard as they made a second-half comeback against a strong Warwickshire touring team challenging the visitors on several rinks, but eventually went down by five rinks to one.

Solihull’s winning rink was Margaret Shepheard, Dolores Burdett, John Bentien and Malcolm Evans.

Before Saturday’s match the 48 players stood for a minute’s silence in memory of stalwart member and former treasurer, Roy Harsant, who died earlier this month. His funeral will be at Robin Hood Crematorium on Friday (May 22) at 1pm.

In the BBA (Division A) League match at Sherwood Park BC (Hall Green) each side won a rink but the Municipal men lost overall by four points and gained only two points.

Winning rink was John Bentien, Francis Fletcher,Keith Miller and Malcolm Evans (24-21), while Roger Reade, Tony Burdett, Chris Holmes and David Greaves lost 14-21.
