The Youth team of Solihull CC triumphed on Saturday at the club’s annual hill climb on old Gorecott Hill on a fine, cold, morning.
Closed to through traffic it is ideal for young riders and under 16 Joe Fox stormed up the hill in 1 min 20 secs to take the win from last year’s winner Mark Wevill by one second.
Ian Cowan was third in 1-28 and there were some super times clocked by other youngsters who gave it their all against the more experienced, and older, riders.
On Sunday the same youth team travelled to Baggeridge Country Park for Round Seven of the WMCCL cyclo-cross and they dominated this event by winning four of the five age categories.
Joe Fox won the U16 race by almost two minutes from his usual adversary, Same Lowe of Raleigh/Avanti RT. Equally impressive, however, was Jack Ravenscroft who took the third podium spot in the same race but was also the winner of the U14 category by a massive five minutes.
Danny Fox was lying second in the U14 category when he crashed on the final lap but picked himself up to finish third in the U14s.
In the U10 race it was Matt Shaw again who dominated proceedings with yet another win while Harrison and Jacob Knight rode consistently to take fourth and sixth positions.
A bit further back James Alexander grabbed 12th and just behind him Jack Rootkin-Gray took 13th but was the winner of the U8 category by a good margin.
Winning so early in his first season shows just what potential he has.
In the U12 race Kelton Aldridge was the best placed rider and this week took seventh, one better than last week. The disappointment of the day was the result for Ben Breakwell who rode strongly for fourth place in the U10 race only to be given 21st due to a miscount on his laps. The results on the day bode well for the whole team in this competition.
