OLTON knew that they needed points from this week’s Investec Ladies Premier League local derby against Sutton Coldfield.

Sutton had risen to top of the league after a convincing win 7-0 against Slough the previous week and played their usual physical, individual style.

This was well handled by Olton in the first half and it was captain Naomi James who opened the scoring from a well drilled penalty corner to put Olton ahead.

At half time, Olton had the upper hand, however Sutton wore down the Olton defence to grind out three well executed short corners. This was followed by a scramble across the line goal in open play from Jane Sixsmith.

The next couple of games will prove crucial for Olton and next week they are away to Slough.

Sheffield Hallam 5 Olton & WW 2

In a typically tough away fixture, Olton’s Men travelled to Sheffield Hallam high on confidence and expecting to get something out of this EHL Northern Conference fixture.

Sheffield started well and went a goal ahead when Olton were down to ten men due to a harsh umpiring decision.

However Olton levelled the score through Tom Mallett who even managed to play a one-two with the post to finish off the goal.

It was not to last, Sheffield quickly scoring a brace of goals for 3-1.

However after winning their first penalty corner of the game Olton managed to bring the score back to 3-2 through Angus Grieve only to see Sheffield score again off the last play of the half.

Despite being two goals down, Olton started the second half well but Sheffield broke to make it 5-2.

Next week Olton play Leek and will be hoping to get back to winning ways.
