Sutton Coldfield 4 Olton &WW 5
THE pressure was really on this week. Three points were very much needed Olton Ladies we were to catch University of Birmingham to stay out of Premier League play offs.
Some of the other Olton teams travelled to Sutton to support the 1st XI, which was much appreciated, and what a game to come and watch!
It started with some great Olton forward play with opportunities falling to Emma McCabe, but a quick breakaway and it was Sutton’s Jane Sixsmith that was the first to capitalise with just five minutes on the clock.
Lucilla Parkes, back from having a baby, really had an impact on the game, providing leadership up front and setting Amy Hone up for a deflected goal on seven minutes, with Hone’s first touch of the game.
There was another great performance from Pascale Massey, a storming charge down the left channel, along the base line and straight through Sutton’s defence to extend the early lead in the 10th minute. A great goal from Lucilla in the 15th and a short corner finish from Kerry Thompson- Moore in 22nd meant a lot of celebrations.
Olton’s game plan was broken down by Sutton, who scored two goals in open play in the 26th and 28th, leaving the score at 4-3 to Olton at the break.
The second half was one of patience and tight marking. Emma McCabe gave the team breathing space and a two goal cushion in the 44th minute before Sutton pulled one back in the 61st minute by converting a short corner, but it wasn’t enough.
