OLTON came within three minutes of breaking Coventry & North Warwicks 100 per-cent league record.
The Grange Road side were holding the league leaders until a late winner gave the visitors a 2-1 win.
The game started at a fierce pace and Olton found themselves on the back foot from the start and were forced to defend deep.
Coventry took the lead after 20 minutes through a penalty stroke after Andrew Isaacs had fouled in the area.
Issacs was sin-binned but the away side failed to improve their score and Olton levelled the scores in the second half through Tom Mallet.
Olton continued their pursuit for a winner but eventually lost the game late on when Coventry deflected the ball into the top corner from a short corner.
Elsewhere Jenny Pritchard’s strike gave Olton Ladies a narrow 1-0 win over newly-promoted Trojans.
Olton Girls swept into Round three of the Cup with a 7-0 thrashing of Gloucester, whilst their male counterparts overcame Oxford Hawks 2-1 in Round one of the Plate.
