The new season began with Olton playing host to Trojans in a game which, on past form, should have been three points in the bank.
Olton started brightly and had most of the early play, despite and energetic defensive from the visitors. Olton finally got the breakthrough they needed when Rachel Walker converted a penalty stroke awarded after a shot was stopped on the line.
Trojans were forced to play on the counter-attack for most of the game and had their best chances from a short corner which drew a headed clearance from stand-in keeper Laura Price and a goal–mouth scramble which Olton cleared, drawing an audible gasp of relief from the spectators.
The teams went off at half-time with the score still at 1-0 despite some great play and near misses for Olton.
The second half was more of the same, with Olton doubling their lead on 50 minutes with a slickly worked short corner, resulting in a strike from Rachel Walker leaving the keeper no chance.
This effectively finished off the challenge from Trojans and Olton finished comfortable winners of a game in which they could possibly have had a four or five goal haul.
