OLTON and West Warwick are celebrating after their impressive team won the England Hockey Mixed Trophy at the weekend.
Their semi-final game against Cheltenham was an exciting end-to-end affair in blistering heat. Goals from Mark Wilson, Sam Mallett (2) and Daniel Sulway saw them through, despite a spirited second half come back by their opponents.
The victory set up a mouth watering final between Olton and Staines, which did not disappoint.
In a tight first half it took Olton 19 minutes and a piece of individual skill from Naomi James to put the Midlanders ahead from one of their penalty corners.
After the break it was more of the same until Staines were reduced to ten when Richard Green was sin-binned and Olton, with an extra player advantage, finally broke through.
A well-struck Olton penalty corner rebounded to striker Fiona Davies who, at the third attempt, beat the keeper. And with a minute left, Holly Chipman put the game beyond reach when she scored Olton’s third and final goal.
