On court to mark upgrade

A SOLIHULL tennis club is celebrating the completion of two new courts - the only ones of their kind in the UK - with an open day this Sunday.

A SOLIHULL tennis club is celebrating the completion of two new courts - the only ones of their kind in the UK - with an open day this Sunday.

After 18 months of fund raising and two large grants, Blossomfield Tennis Club has been able to upgrade its facilities - including showpiece artificial clay courts.

The courts are the only ones in the country that carry an ITF (International Tennis Federation) rating to that of real clay.

“This is a real coup for the club, and indeed for Solihull,” said Jim Hart from the club.

“We hope to attract more players as a result.”

Sunday’s open day at Widney Lane begins at 2pm and includes tennis demonstrations, fun matches, an exhibition and a barbecue.
