Old Hill 64 a.o v Berkswell 65
Berkswell’s fine start to the Birmingham Premier League division 1, continued with an outstanding six wicket away victory over Black Country side, Old Hill.
Winning the toss, visiting captain Dominic Ostler invited the home side to bat and after three overs openers Mike Hingley and Danny Cox had pushed the score on to 16, but in the fourth Chris Cheslin had Hingley (10) caught behind by Phil Neale with the score on 19.
Amazingly, the loss of Hingley effectively put an end to the Old Hill innings as a devastating spell of fast bowling from Tom Milnes and Cheslin saw them collapse to 26 for 7 at the end of the 11th over.
The innings came to an end in the 23rd over when Ashfak Hussain (8) edged Hartslief and gave Phil Neale his sixth catch when brilliantly clutching the ball low down to his right.
Berkswell lost some early wickets but Phil Neale and Wes Hartslief rapidly moved the score to within reach of the target with a series of boundaries, but with the score on 61 Hartslief (19), attempting to win the match with one shot, was caught on the boundary off the first ball of the 19th over.
Ostler made his way to wicket but was merely a spectator as Neale, having crossed with the demise of Hartslief, top edged the last ball of the over, over the slips for four to finish 25 not out and give Berkswell a well earned victory.
An exuberant Ostler said: “We went to Old Hill full of confidence after last week’s win and to come away with such an emphatic victory over one of the best sides in the league is very encouraging.”
Next week Berkswell face another tough encounter away at near rivals Dorridge.
