KNOWLE & Dorridge Running Club gained promotion at the weekend after the final race of their debut cross country season in the Men’s Birmingham and District Invitation League Division 3.
The race was played out in icy course conditions at Stafford Common last Saturday with Trentham RC taking the top spot and K&D finishing second overall in the league, securing their promotion to Division 2.
Club runners Simon Bentley and Joe Read collected individual achievement awards for top Senior and top Junior respectively in Division 3.
With a line up of 17 runners, the quality and commitment of the team was evident with six K&D runners finishing in the top 23 out of a field of over 184 runners.
“To get promoted in our first season in the Cross Country League is fantastic,” said club Captain Lloyd Barton.
“It’s been a great season for us and says a lot about the team spirit within the club.
“‘Most pleasing though, is the fact that we’ve consistently managed to enter an average of 18 runners per race, which can be an important factor in the point scoring system of cross country races.”
Division 2 now beckons, where starting in November, the team will be racing alongside friends and local rivals from Centurion Running Club when the Cross Country league starts again.
