A FEMALE golfing sensation from Solihull College has been selected as one of nine members of Team Great Britain & Ireland and will compete in a European golfing tournament in Germany.
Rachel Jennings will travel to Hamburg Golf Club on July 24/25 to compete against the Continent of Europe in the Vagliano Trophy match.
The 20-year-old England Golf AASE Academy students has already won the English Girls’ Championship and the French Under-21 Championship and says she cannot wait for the competition.
“I’m really excited, and can’t wait to get out there and compete,” she said.
“Golf is my life, and I’ve put a lot of preparation into next month’s competition. I’ve got a good few golfing competitions under my belt now, but being part of Team Great Britain & Ireland is a particularly proud moment for me. The perfect end to the competition would be to return to England with the Vagliano Trophy.”
Susan Simpson, Head of Golf Operations for the Ladies’ Golf Union, said: “Rachel is a player of great talent and potential. She helped England achieve seventh place at the World Amateur Team Championship for the Espirito Santo Trophy.
This season she was a close runner-up in the Welsh Open Stroke-Play Championship, and was third qualifier in the English Championship.”
Andrew Schneider, England Golf AASE Academy Manager at Solihull College, said: “We’re really proud of Rachel’s achievement, through dedication and determination she has rightfully earned her place on Team Great Britain & Ireland.
“I know she’ll give her all on the green, we’ll be supporting her at every stage, and hope to hear the good news that the team are coming back with the title.”
