TWO of Solihull Cycling Club’s top youth riders completed their mountain bike cross country season on Saturday at Newnham Park, Plymouth.
Both Jack Ravenscroft and Danny Fox have ridden all five counting events in the Under14 category with Ravenscroft going into the last event ranked Number 1 in the UK with Fox at Number 3.
The race was held on a brutish course at Newnham Park and combined a series of steep climbs, deep water crossings and tricky descents to test both the nerve and fitness of the young athletes.
After the first lap Ravenscroft came up the steep hill past the feed zone in first place….but only by 15 seconds on national champion William Cheaney.
Ravenscroft kicked again and got away. From this moment on, he didn’t look back and some 20 minutes later came romping into the main arena on his own.
Some two minutes later, Fox was home in ninth place.
By winning the last event, Ravenscroft also won the overall British Cycling national series while Fox was elevated to third overall rewarding his commitment and grit over the five rounds.
