Slough 2 Olton & WW 3
NAOMI James gave Olton the best possible start in this must-win fixture in the Investec Women’s Hockey League Premier Division.
She converted a penalty corner in the fifth minute and Kirsty Cole doubled their lead ten minutes later.
Two up and cruising, Olton were brought down to earth to make it 2-2 with memories of the collapse against Sutton preying on the girls’ minds.
It took over 20 minutes before skipper Rachel Clift edged Olton ahead again with a goal from open play, and it was a case of battening down the hatches for the final, tense, 13 minutes.
It worked and Olton returned home with a priceless three points that might just be the difference later in the season.
Barford Tigers 1 Olton & WW 1
IN the EHL Northern Conference, Olton & West Warwick’s Men’s 1st XI had a double header of two away games over the weekend.
The Saturday saw them travel to local rivals Barford Tigers who were in a rich vein of form having gained their first win after recruiting some new players.
The match saw both sides have a number of chances but few of any real quality and honours were shared, Tom Mallet getting the Olton goal.
Against a much improved Leek Olton lost 3-2 despite dominating possession, particularly in the second half.
Olton now sit in 6th position, seven points above the relegation zone, with three games left in the season.
