Runners brave the elements for cross country contest

ONCE again Solihull’s runners proved themselves to be a hardy lot.

ONCE again Solihull’s runners proved themselves to be a hardy lot.

While many in the borough were content to stay in the warm indoors, 38 brave souls headed down to Brueton Park to take part in the weekly run last Saturday.

Due to the wintery conditions, the usual 5km tarmac race was changed to a 6km cross country with many of the participants sporting a seasonal garment or two.

In his first appearance in the Brueton Park run Andrew Kaar of Birchfield Harriers crossed the line first, recording a time of 23 minutes and 49 seconds.

Jonathan Jennings of Knowle and Dorridge Running Club was two minutes behind him and Douglas Talbort of Centurion Running Club was a further nine seconds behind in third.

Among the ladies, Amanda O’Leary was the quickest, finishing the course in 30 minutes and 36 seconds.
