A STRONG field contested the blue riband event of Shirley Roads Cycling Club - its classic Open 50 - with former club member Scott Povey emerging victorious.
Riding on a modified course, Povey, now of www.drag2zero.com clinched top spot and the Shirley Challenge Cup with a time of one hour 49 minutes and 16 seconds.
Barry Charlton of Swinnerton Cycles was second in 1:49:49 with Scott Westwood of Walsall Roads CC third in 1:50:51.
Charlton also took the Ted Gittings Memorial Cup as the first veteran home on standard time.
First home on handicap was Dary Godden of Beacon Racing CC with Susan Semple of Stafford CC the first lady in 2:12:20 to take the Ladies Shield.
The team trophy was won by the Rugby RCC squad of Tim Hastie, Matthew Plant and Peter Wright in a time of 6:04:16 while Chris Morris and Phil Hunt of Wyre Forest CRC won the tandem class in 1:46:20.
Shirley Roads has run its Classic Open 50 since 1946 and it has regularly attracted a top field.
