Old Silhillians 6 Streetly 1
THE Old Silhillians Ladies hosted Streetly in the first round of the Women’s Investec Vase on Sunday.
Buoyed by resurgence in form, a confident Sils team started the match with great intensity. The Sils were camped in the Streetly half but it took 25 minutes for their determined defence to be broken. A driving run from Caroline Robinson set up captain Emma Rosser who smashed the ball into the goal.
The second half saw Sils pick up the pace, with Georgie Jones in particular causing no end of problems.
It did not take long before Jones set up vice captain and player of the match Sam Cooper, whose strike doubled the Sils lead.
Cooper then quickly bagged her second by slotting the ball between the keeper’s legs.
Anna Trenchard made it 4-0 with some silky stick skills and a quick shot. A couple of unfortunate injuries meant the Sils had to make changes at the back and Streetly quickly capitalised through a well worked penalty corner.
Any thoughts of a Streetly comeback were extinguished within a minute of the restart when Alex Levey smartly swept in another Jones cross. Senior striker Lou Hirons finished off the scoring with a deft reverse stick flick to see the Sils through to the second round with a comprehensive 6-1 victory.
The Sils return to league hockey this Saturday away at newly promoted Ludlow.
