Old Sils 4 Badsey 1
SILS Ladies hockey team continued their winning form on Saturday, increasing their run of successes to six and maintaining their third place in the table.
Sils were again the dominate team from the start of the match. Leading from the front captain Kat Berns pushed her forwards high to keep Badsey on the back foot. It wasn’t long before player of the match, Sam Cooper broke through the Badsey defence and shot low to the back post where Lou Hirons deflected the ball neatly into the goal.
Sils kept up their hard running and again Georgie Jones caused the visitors all sorts of problems with her speed and elimination skills. The pressure began to tell on the visitors who started to give away penalty corners.
Ally Taft scored the first from such a corner, smashing a rebounded Cooper shot into the back of the net. Emily Green followed suit minutes later again following up on a Cooper strike.
The second half saw Sils try to continue their high press but some over eager tackling led to two yellow cards.
Badsey quickly capitalised on their numerical advantage through a simple overload, leaving the Sils keeper stranded.
The home side quickly shut up shop until they returned to full strength when they returned to their attacking style of hockey.
The scoring was finished off with Sam Cooper flicking the ball into the roof of the net following another rebounded shot. The Sils look to continue their winning streak next weekend.
Firstly with an away league match on Saturday against Worcester followed by their Investec Vase K.O. match against Nuneaton at the Silhillians Sports Ground on Sunday.
