NORTH Solihull is celebrating a silver medal win for indoor rowing at the recent Solihull, Coventry and Warwickshire school team games at Coventry Sports Centre.
Three teams from Grace Academy Solihull represented the North Solihull region after qualifying in the indoor rowing trials at Coleshill Primary School last month.
Para Olympic Gold medallist, James Roe, who supported the event and was on hand to award the silver medals, said: “I really enjoyed the day and was extremely impressed by the standard shown by the competitors and their great enthusiasm, endurance, and determination to win.”
Eight teams rowed in the finals from across Solihull, Coventry and Warwickshire and each team had to row an endurance race for four minutes and then compete in a four and six minute relay.
Louise Knight, head of Girls’ PE and the Sport, Media, and Performing Arts Faculty, Grace Academy Solihull, added: “All the students were so enthusiastic and motivated and loved the atmosphere of rowing against other teams.
“We entered a year nine boys’ team, a year nine girls’ team, and a year ten boys’ team who all achieved second place in their age groups.
“This win has really inspired them to achieve gold next year. Well done!”
