A teenage boxer from Solihull is representing England in a three nations bout in Cardiff this weekend.
Louis Phillips, a student at Alderbrook School, was due to fight in the amateur England v Wales tri-nations juniors match today, Friday.
The 16-year-old is an ABA National Champion in the class B under-80kg.
Paul Archer, his coach at Solihull Community Amateur Boxing Club, said: “He’s definitely got what it takes to go pro. He’s a very tough kid and he’s got really good foot and hand work.
“He is our first boxer to box for England – I’m immensely proud of him.
“I’ll be going down to cheer him on and everyone at the club wishes him the best luck.”
Louis, who already stands 6ft 3in, was encouraged to join the club three years ago by his parents to boost his fitness and self-confidence.
Mum Tracey said: “He is quite shy and he doesn’t always believe in himself. This has definitely brought him out of his shell. We are really proud of him.”
