SOLIHULL was well represented at the English Schools Athletics Championships as the country’s top young athletes gathered at Gateshead International Stadium for the key event of the season.
Athletes from Solihull & Small Heath AC, all chosen to compete for the West Midlands team competed against the highest calibre competition.
Phoebe White and Bethany Catchpole advanced through the Junior Girls 100m Sprint heats and reached the semi-finals. It was here that Phoebe came sixth, with a time of 12.83 secs, having earlier recorded a personal best of 12.71 secs during the heats. Bethany Catchpowle, who had also ran a PB of 12.48 in the heats, got fourth position in her race with a time of 12.83 secs.
Meanwhile, sprinter Remy Barrett made it through the Intermediate Girls 100m heats with a PB of 12.29 to the final, where she kept to form and narrowly missed out on a medal after coming fourth with a time of 12.32 secs.
Reuben Esien enjoyed field event success in the Junior Boys High Jump with a jump of 1.81m which secured him second place and a silver medal in what was a closely fought competition.
Josh Hill, who had been selected for the Intermediate Boys High Jump, was unable to compete due to recent hamstring injury.
