SOLIHULL Indoor Bowls Club’s last match of the season was at Brick Kiln Lane against the Windmill Bowls Club Touring Team from Kent.

The visitors included several Kent County players who had been in the county team that had inflicted substantial defeats on Solihull and Warwickshire during the season. Solihull captain Brian Halsey set up his team to be cautious against such unknown opponents.

Captain Brian’s tactics worked very well over the first third of the match, and after six ends Solihull held a 31-23 lead.

Brian asked for further defensive strategies, but his team had grown in confidence and began to launch forays that took the visitors by surprise.

As a result after 12 ends, the hosts had extended their lead to 83-47. The visitors tried hard over the final third, but the now rampant Solihull’s lead grew end by end to give them a resounding result and wonderful win by 70 shots 137-67.
