A TEAM of badminton players from Solihull School will be taking the shuttle to Nottingham later this month for the finals of a top national competition.

The boys, aged from 15-16, are to take part in the finals of the Center Parcs National Schools Championships at Centre Parcs on April 25 after winning the West Midlands regional title.

Representing Warwickshire, they overcame the top teams from Birmingham, the Black Country, Worcestershire and Staffordshire to win the regional round.

The team gained 5-0 wins against Paulet High School, from Staffordshire, and Kingswinford School, from the Black Country, but had a nail-biting result against King Edward VI Camp Hill from Birmingham.

With the match score tied at 2-2, the deciding game went to 20-20, with Solihull keeping their nerve to return the serve and win the last point.

Solihull School’s Under-14 girls’ team also reached the regional finals of the Center Parcs competition.

They finished third after beating Thomas Alleyne’s School, from Staffordshire, and Malvern St James School, from Worcestershire.
