SOLIHULL Cycling Club’s brilliant Danielle Khan has clinched the national youth 500m time trial championship.
Competing at the Manchester Velodrome, the 17-year-old swept all before her with team mate Lucy Shaw finishing sixth.
Khan has already been earmarked by British Cycling for future success and is part of its Olympic Development Programme, targeting Rio in 2016.
Not to be outdone, Solihull CC’s senior riders were in fine form too at the League of Veteran Racing Cyclists Championship at Birmingham Business Park.
The Vets champion in the 65-69 category was Dave Rutherford, already World Champion in the 65-69 age group, while team mate Bob Richards picked up the National Championship in the 70-74 category.
Meanwhile last Sunday saw the final race in the three series Solihull Sprint of 2012. Riders came from as far afield as Somerset and Wales to race against Solihull’s finest. There were wins for the club’s Under 12 rider Matt Shaw, U14 Jake Stewart and U16 Sophie Faulkener.
Prizes were awarded by Solihull CC Life President Tommy Godwin, 92, who took two medals the last time the Olympic Games were held in London in 1948.
