UP and coming Ruach Shotokan Karate students Khazim Mahmood aged 14, and Rosie Burgess aged nine both won medals at their first external competition - the Randolph Williams Memorial Championships in Milton Keynes last Saturday.

Rosie, who attends Greswold School, shone in the kata competition, performing a pre-set series of moves which includes blocks, punches and kicks.

Having won her section, Rosie progressed to the final where she won a bronze medal.

The afternoon was then given over to the free fighting kumite events where Khazim, who attends Alderbrook School, stepped onto the mat and with his lighting fast reflexes achieved a well-deserved silver medal.

Classes are held at Tudor Grange Leisure Centre and more details are available from Gary Beggan on 07946 348131.
