SOLIHULL Synchronized Skating Adult Team ‘Spitfires’ were celebrating this weekend after securing a bronze medal at the prestigious Trophy D’Ecosse International Synchronized Skating Competition in Dumfries on Easter Sunday.
The ISU International Skating event saw teams from all over the world compete at the Dumfries Ice Bowl with the Spitfires travelling up to Scotland as complete underdogs in the fiercely competitive Adult category.
The eight competing teams in their group were all experienced synchro outfits and yet Spitfires managed to get within 0.15 of a silver medal.
Head coach Tina Graham said: “This is a fantastic achievement for the Spitfires, they had a clean skate and I was particularly pleased that the technical element of their score would have put them in second place. It’s a great testament to all the hard work they have put into their training at Solihull ice rink. I was proud of all of my teams, but it was great to see the Spitfires on the podium!”
The other teams in the Solihull Synchronized Skating School, the Baronettes, Dominos and Sparkles all skated with real character and determination but a special mention has to go to the Baronettes whose stand out performance caught the attention of the synchronized skating world, with many commenting that they are the team to watch out for in the future!
