Tennis ace Alex has the right climate to succeed

Alex Griffiths has been given a boost in his tennis career after securing a sponsorship package with a local company.

Young ace Alex Griffiths has been given a boost in his tennis career after securing a sponsorship package with a local company.

The 13-year-old, who is ranked in the top ten at county Under 14 level, has been supported by air conditioning business Indoor Climate Systems.

The Solihull-based firm have agreed to help cover costs like kit and training and competition expenses, which will give Alex the opportunity to compete in Tennis Europe events.

The youngster attends Solihull School and currently trains at the High Performance Centre at Edgbaston Priory, where he is coached by Gary Naughton.

He regularly competes all over the country, captains the school tennis team, has represented Warwickshire as they reached the national finals last year and is currently ranked just inside the top 40 in the national seasonal list for 13-year-olds.

Matt Round operations Director for ICS said: “Through our relationship with Mitsubishi we are able to assist the development of local talent.

“In Alex we have identified someone who with our support will be given an opportunity to maximise his potential.

“We are all extremely excited about this arrangement and will continue to support Alex in his efforts”

Meanwhile. the Warwickshire senior women’s team are on County Cup duty in Eastbourne this week.

The squad, captained by Katie Shaw and consisting Luisa Cowper, Manisha Foster, Alannah Griffin, Natasha Hillyer, Alice Hopkins, Leyla Ogan and Soumeya Anane, take on Buckinghamshire, Herts, Cheshire, Kent and East Scotland.
