Solihull youngsters on tour with Midlands Conference ice hockey team.

OVER the Easter weekend Ethan Smith and Andrew Hayward, pupils of Lode Heath School and junior ice hockey players with Coventry Blaze and Solihull Barons ice hockey clubs respectively, travelled to Tours in France as part of the Midlands U13s Conference team for an international U13 tournament.

OVER the Easter weekend Ethan Smith and Andrew Hayward, pupils of Lode Heath School and junior ice hockey players with Coventry Blaze and Solihull Barons ice hockey clubs respectively, travelled to Tours in France as part of the Midlands U13s Conference team for an international U13 tournament.

There were 12 teams from France, Switzerland and England took part including a team from the South West Conference in England.

The Midlands Conference team were unbeaten through the group stages before coming from behind to beat a team from Rouen, France (2-1) in a hard fought semi-final.

The second semi-final saw the South West Conference team see off a spirited challenge from a team from Angers, France to set up an all English final.

Cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd, the Midlands Conference team stormed out of the blocks to race into a 3-0 lead, before going on to win with a very impressive performance 5-1.
