SOLIHULL’S Danny Fox has won the yellow jersey in the Youth Tour of the Isle of Man.
The 15-year old from Shirley, riding for Solihull Cycling Club, clinched the top spot thanks to a spirited and courageous move in Sunday’s final road stage.
The National Series event saw the best youth riders compete over three days, starting with a prologue time trial in which Fox finished second.
Wearing the green points’ jersey into the second day’s stages, Fox managed to escape from the bunch with a group of ten riders to hold second place and close the gap to within three seconds of the yellow jersey.
On the final road stage, Fox broke clear on his own and held the gap for the last 20 minutes of the race, taking the leader’s yellow jersey and the trophy by an impressive 12 seconds.
The Isle of Man of course is the home to world cycling champion and London 2012 gold medal hope Mark Cavendish and Fox’s success will have alerted other teams and sponsors to his abilities.
Elsewhere, with Solihull CC on the tour, Solihull’s Matt Shaw, in yellow, mis-counted the laps to go board, and sprinted for the line, only to hear the bell!
In the end, out of puff, he finished sixth on the stage and second overall.
