SOLIHULL racing driver Nick Yelloly has finished fifth overall in his first full season in the 2012 Formula Renault 3.5 Championship.
Yelloly won two races and in the final event of the season last weekend at Barcelona struggled for pace, starting from 13th on the grid in the first race before dropping to finish in 15th.
In the second race, Yelloly lost time in the pitstop whilst third and rejoined in 16th. Undeterred, he battled back to finish 14th.
“I want to say a massive thank you to the whole Comtec Racing team for all the hard work they have put in this year,” he said.
“We have had a brilliant year together and fifth place in the Drivers’ Championship and seventh place in the Teams’ Championship are fantastic achievements.”
l It was a tale of two halves for Redstone Racing at Brands Hatch last weekend during the dramatic season finale of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC).
An outstanding maiden race win and two top five finishes for BTCC rookie Aron Smith in the Redstone S2000 Focus allowed the Motorbase run-team to close the gap on the Independent Team’s Championship going into the final round.
Unfortunately, a retirement for Henley-in-Arden team-mate Mat Jackson’s NGTC Focus meant that their hopes of finishing the season on a high were effectively dashed.
In the first race, Smith took fourth and Jackson was forced to take early retirement with one lap to go.
In the second race, Smith snatched second position before taking his maiden win and Jackson crossed the line in seventh place.
In the final race, the same throttle issue that struck Jackson’s race 1 lead at Silverstone two weeks ago, appeared again. This ended Jackson’s 2012 season early, taking Redstone Racing’s chances of clinching the Independent’s title with it.
