ROUND 2 of the 2013 BTRDA Rally Championship saw Solihull’s Scott Faulkner embark on the long journey to Cumbria for the Malcolm Wilson Rally.
This was yet another new rally for the team, using stages in the classic Grizedale, Greystoke and Winlatter Forests to create a route of 50 stage miles for the event.
Scott and Dom set off early in the CAB Auto and Professional Motorsport World Expo-backed Mitsubishi Evo 9. The crew headed up the Winlatter Pass to the first 2 stages; Hobcarton and Comb. The first stage would again see a steady start for Scott, with no mistakes and a respectable time.
Stages 3 was based in the M-Sport owned Greystoke Forest.
Scott had a superb run through the Grizedale North stage, and towards the end of the Grizedale south the tyres had become too hot, and the grip levels deteriorated.
Greystoke 2 went well except for a very fast and frightening incident at 100mph at the start of the stage which tested all of Scott’s car control skills. The last stage, Wythop, with the low sun setting over the trees made for difficult driving conditions. A conservative run through the final stage saw Scott drop from 26th to a final position of 27th and 5th in Group N class.
This was a good result for the team as it was more mileage under their belts and being only their second event just getting to the finish was the objective.
“Even in that final stage; we were still learning how the car will go faster and the most important thing for me is that we have now improved from 16th to a very respectable 11th in the championship!” said Scott.
